Newlands Hill Wind Energy Hub update

Newlands Hill Wind Energy Hub update

Belltown Power have let us know that their application for 15 wind turbines and a battery storage facility is now proceeding to Public Local Inquiry (“PLI”) after East Lothian Council raised an objection to the Proposed Development in September 2024.

As per the PLI process, the project has recently moved from the Energy Consents Unit to the Department of Planning and Environmental Appeals (DPEA). A Reporter from the DPEA will be appointed to conduct the inquiry. The Reporter will consider all the evidence from the various parties and will compile a report based on these findings, which will be shared with the Scottish Ministers to support them reaching their final determination.  Given the PLI process, they are now expecting a determination of the application to be made in late 2026 / early 2027.
