Update 24th Sept from SPEN C121 Road Reopening
“SP Energy Networks is pleased to confirm that the current closure on the C121, between Blackcastle Cottage and the junction with the U215, will be lifted and the road will reopen on Friday 25 September.
SP Energy Networks would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while these important junction improvement works have been carried out.
Following the reopening of the road, works on the project will continue. However, the road widening works that were previously scheduled under the next planned road closure (phase 2) will not now be taking place at this stage. As a result, no further road closure will be implemented immediately following the reopening of the road on 25 September, and the C121 will remain open to traffic.
The road widening works remain an important part of the project and the required road closure will be taken later in the construction programme to facilitate these works. Details of this closure, including dates and traffic management arrangements, will be communicated to the community in advance.
Residents will continue to have access to their properties at all times, and every effort will be made to minimise disruption as works progress.
SP Energy Networks appreciate the community’s continued support and cooperation while these essential infrastructure works are completed, and we will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.”

Upcoming Road Closures to Support Construction of Branxton Substation
SPEN “Further to the information about the road closures for Branxton in last week’s bulletin, we would like to reiterate the closures in place and clarify that those living in properties around the closure site, will be able to access their properties throughout the works.
Please note that we will aim to complete the work as quickly as we can and will reopens so that they are not closed any longer than necessary. The road closures will be as follows.
Tuesday 4 August – Thursday 27 August
A full road closure will be in place on the U215. Local access only. This closure is required to facilitate junction works where the haul road crosses the public road.
Thursday 27 August – Sunday 13 September (August – 25th Sept.)
Phase one – A full road closure will be in place on the C121 between Blackcastle cottage and the junction with the U215. Please note the U215 will remain open throughout. This is detailed, along with the diversion in the image above. This will allow further junction works to be carried out where the haul road crosses the public road.
Sunday 13 September to Monday 12th October (25th Sept- 12th Oct)
Phase two – a full closure of the section of the C121 between the junction of the U215 and the existing substation will be required to facilitate utility diversion works. This is detailed in the image above. The U215 will remain open throughout.
SPEN are currently working with the Community Traffic and Travel Forum to review tree and hedgerow removal on the C121. SPEN have undertaken to review plans and refer back to the community prior to any associated tree and hedgerow removal works taking place.

Bilsdean sliproad off A1
“We would also like to announce that the new slip road off the A1 is now open to authorised vehicles only, with a camera system in place to monitor compliance. The construction traffic route at Bilsdean will no longer be in use. We have briefed all contractors that they are to use the new slip road to exit off the A1 and to use the existing slip road back on to the A1, turning left and using the Spott roundabout to return south on the A1.”
