Our Local Ambitions
The East Lammermuir Local Place Plan was shaped by the people who live and work here and sets out what our community wants to see happen over the coming years.
It was validated by East Lothian Council in July 2024 and will help inform the next East Lothian Local Development Plan.
Work is now underway to turn its four community Ambitions into practical action.
The Plan and its delivery updates are for everyone – including residents, community groups and partner organisations. You can read the full documents or use the sections below to find the information most relevant to you.

Putting the Local Place Plan into action: the next 100 days
The next 100 days are about putting the practical arrangements in place to deliver the four Ambition plans.
Days 1–30: understand the current position, meet the people already involved and put the governance arrangements in place.
The LPP Governance and Delivery Framework was agreed by ELCC on 24 August 2026.
Days 31–60: develop the funding approach, establish the four Ambition Steering Groups and continue progressing current projects.
Days 61–100: hold the first overall LPP Steering Group meeting, bring together priorities and funding needs, and agree the main work for the following 6–12 months.
How do i get involved?
Anyone locally who is interested can get involved in delivering the four Ambitions.
This could include joining an Ambition Steering Group, initiating and or contributing to a project, attending a meeting or workshop, sharing local knowledge or taking part in practical action.
We will build on the consultation already carried out rather than start again. Further engagement will be linked to projects and decisions as they develop.

How the four Ambitions work together
Although the four Ambitions are presented separately, they are closely connected. Decisions about one Ambition may create opportunities – or affect delivery – across the others.
- improvements to paths can also create and connect wildlife habitats;
- routes across the A1 could support active travel, access to transport and connections needed for future energy infrastructure;
- mobility hubs could connect community transport with walking and cycling;
- work by energy developers could help provide new paths, habitat improvements or shared infrastructure; and
- coordinated household energy improvements could reduce costs and prevent residents receiving repeated or conflicting information.
The Community Ambitions Synergies Report
In May 2026, a fifth report was published to bring together the findings and recommendations from the four Community Ambition reports.
Its purpose was to identify opportunities to:
- coordinate delivery across all four Ambitions;
- share information, mapping, engagement and specialist support;
- avoid projects or organisations duplicating work;
- combine funding where one project could deliver several benefits;
- provide early, visible improvements while developing larger, long-term projects; and
- establish clear governance, partnerships and responsibility for delivery.
The report identifies the A1 corridor as a significant shared barrier and opportunity. Work in this area could potentially contribute to active travel, biodiversity, transport connections and future energy infrastructure.
It also highlights the particularly strong connection between Active Travel and Biodiversity. New or improved paths could be planned alongside hedgerows, habitat corridors, river restoration and other improvements for nature.
These connections will be considered through the Local Place Plan governance and delivery framework so that the four Ambitions support one another rather than being delivered in isolation.
