Explore our new interactive Local Place Plan maps

We’ve been turning the maps from our 2024 Local Place Plan into interactive online maps for each of our four villages: Innerwick, Oldhamstocks, Spott and Stenton.

The original maps in the Local Place Plan were PDFs. They’re still useful, but they’re fixed pictures. Our new digital maps let you zoom in, explore different information and see how local projects and ideas connect.

Even better, we can keep adding information and making changes as projects develop, rather than producing a new PDF every time something changes.

Have a look at your village map

Visit our Our Local Place Plan website page to explore the maps.

Once you’ve opened your village map, you can:

  • Zoom in and move around to explore your village and the surrounding countryside.
  • Switch map layers on and off to see paths, cycle routes, Local Place Plan priorities and other local information.
  • Click on lines, symbols and highlighted areas to find out what they represent.
  • Explore connections between villages, including existing paths and ideas for improving walking and cycling routes.
  • See new information as it’s added, without downloading another map.

The maps bring together ideas from the original Local Place Plan and more recent information about work happening across East Lammermuir.

Why have we chosen free, open-source maps?

We’re using a mapping tool called uMap, which is based on OpenStreetMap.

It’s free to use and doesn’t require us to pay for expensive mapping software licences.

That’s particularly useful for a small community like ours. We can develop and update the maps without ongoing software licence costs, helping them remain useful to residents for years to come.

Spotted something wrong?

These are working maps, and some of the lines and locations are approximate.

You know your local area better than anyone, so if you spot a path in the wrong place, something missing or information that needs updating, please let me know.

Email me at sue.guy@elcc.scot.

If possible, tell me which village map you’re looking at and what needs correcting. You can also send a screenshot showing the location.

I can then make corrections directly to the digital map, without having to redraw and republish a whole document.

We’d also welcome suggestions for additional information that could make the maps more useful.

These maps are part of our ongoing work to deliver the Local Place Plan, and we’d love residents to help make them better.
