EGL1 construction park-and-ride at Spott Road: September 2026 update

In its September 2026 update, Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) (external link — opens in a new tab) described contractor METLEN’s planned park-and-ride facility within Dunbar Business Park, Spott Road.

The facility was planned to provide 261 parking spaces for construction workers, who would travel by bus to and from METLEN’s converter-station construction site at Oxwellmains. It was expected to be in use for three years once complete.

Timings announced in September 2026

The information dated 14 September said construction was expected to begin “in the coming weeks” and take around three months. These were anticipated timings in that announcement, rather than a confirmed start date.

The announced works included:

  • Construction vehicles using the A1, Spott Road and industrial-estate access to enter and leave the site.
  • Plant and construction machinery operating within the site.
  • Temporary welfare facilities for construction workers.
  • Tower lighting, used only if required during working hours.

Activities were expected to take place generally between 7.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with limited Saturday working potentially required towards the end of construction.
