Keeping you informed — changes to our email bulletins and Privacy Policy

As part of the improvements to the East Lammermuir Community Council (ELCC) website, we’ve updated our Privacy Policy and made changes to the way residents can sign up for news and updates.

Our aim is simple: to make it easier for you to hear about the things that matter to you, while being clear about how we look after your personal information.

More choice about the news you receive

We’re introducing a new email bulletin sign-up system that gives residents greater control over the information they receive.

You can choose to subscribe to:

  • East Lammermuir Community Council (ELCC) News — updates from the Community Council, progress on our Local Place Plan, local issues and opportunities to get involved.
  • Energy Projects News — information about energy developments, including construction activity, traffic impacts and the work of the Energy Projects Partnership.

You can subscribe to either news bulletin or both.

If you’re already subscribed to the Energy Projects bulletin, you’ll continue to receive it. You won’t need to sign up again simply because we’re updating the website.

Where available, you’ll also be able to choose particular subjects that interest you, so the information you receive is more relevant to you.

Easier to manage your subscription

Our updated sign-up form is designed to be straightforward.

We only require your email address to subscribe. Providing your name and postcode is optional.

Every bulletin includes links to update your preferences or unsubscribe, so you remain in control of what you receive (at present this doesn’t work when using Safari, so please open in a different web browser).

A clearer Privacy Policy

We’ve also updated our Privacy Policy to explain more clearly:

  • What information we collect and why we need it.
  • How we use your information, including managing newsletter subscriptions and responding to enquiries.
  • Who helps us provide our services, including the organisations that host our website and distribute newsletters.
  • How long we keep information and how we protect it.
  • Your rights, including how to access, correct or request the removal of personal information.
  • How cookies and external services work, including interactive maps and optional website features.

The updated policy was approved by East Lammermuir Community Council on 26 October 2026.

Your information, your choice

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share our newsletter subscriber list with the community benefit organisations for their own use.

You can change your choices whenever you wish, and you can contact us if you have questions about how your information is handled.

Find out more

You can read our updated Privacy Policy on the ELCC website and use the newsletter sign-up form to select the updates you’d like to receive.

Our aim is to keep everyone across East Lammermuir better informed, better connected and more involved in their local community — while giving residents greater choice and control over the information they receive.
