Branxton substation – Update on hedgerow and tree removal plans on C121 near Innerwick

“SP Energy Networks is currently reviewing the detailed plans for the road widening works on the C121 at the entrance to the new Branxton substation. Before any decisions can be made regarding the retention or removal of trees and hedgerow, further surveys and assessment of clearance requirements are needed. As a result, no vegetation works will be undertaken before 2027.

SP Energy Networks remains committed to engaging with the Community Traffic and Transport Forum (CTTF) and will review any future proposals with the group in advance of planned works.”

Fred.Oslen Renewables – The Crystal Rig IV wind farm is now fully operational. However, there is still work to be completed in relation to the public road and the replanting alongside the access road.

“Replanting: Fred. Olsen Renewables (FOR) has been discussing replanting proposals with the Council for several months. We will continue to meet with the Council to finalise agreement on the replanting plans and hope to commence the planting of trees and hedgerows in October.” FOR

Hedgerow Officers – East Lothian Climate Action Network (ELCAN) is hiring two part-time, fixed-term Hedgerow Officers for the winter; one with a focus on the East Lammermuir area and one with a focus on the rest of East Lothian.

The deadline for applications is the end of Monday, 21st September 2026.

The East Lammermuir role is funded by Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm Fund, part of East Lammermuir Community Benefits, and links to the ELCC Local Place Plan biodiversity ambition.
