“On 23 April 2026, SSE [Scottish and Southern Electricity] on behalf BBWFL [Berwick Bank Wind Farm Limited] submitted applications to vary elements of consents and licences granted for the Berwick Bank Wind Farm to allow phased discharge of consent conditions. One of those variations was a request to amend the consent and licence conditions requiring the preparation and submission of a Seabird Compensation Plan (SCP).
The variation request, if approved, would have allowed for a SCP for each project phase to be submitted and approved in advance of the commencement of construction of that phase, rather than requiring a single SCP for the whole site at the outset.
Since the submission of the applications, BBWFL has continued to develop appropriate compensation measures for inclusion in a project-wide SCP. Following a review of this work BBWFL no longer considers it necessary to seek a variation to the consent and license conditions in relation to the Seabird Compensation Plan at this time.
In the interests of progressing these applications and maintaining the wider pre-construction programme BBWFL confirmed to Marine Directorate – Licensing Operations Team that it no longer wishes to pursue the proposed amendments to the SCP conditions across the S36 Consent and marine licences. This does not change any other aspect of the application.”
